This course satisfies requirements for 8-hour Long-Term Care insurance education required to earn a license to sell LTC insurance. Its primary focus is LTC Partnership programs that allow those with approved LTC insurance policies to qualify for Medicaid coverage after their LTC coverage has been exhausted. These partnerships provide much-needed coverage to individuals in 21 states nationwide.

Required CE Hours for Renewal in Massachusetts

  • All Licenses

    • All producers must complete 60 hours during the first 36 months licensed and 45 hours every 36 months thereafter.
    • Public Adjusters must complete 15 hours every 36 months. (Public Adjusters may complete any course approved under the Property/Casualty license type)

Special Training/Education Requirements (LTC, Flood, Ethics, others)

  • Long Term Care -LTC

    • Agents wishing to sell Long Term Care are required to take a one time only 8 hour Department of Insurance certified course
    • Each license term thereafter each agent must complete a 4 hour Long Term Care Partnership CE course that is approved by the department.
  • Flood Insurance Training

    • An insurance producer who sells flood insurance may satisfy the minimum training and education requirements by completing a 3-hour course related to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

How Hours are Reported

  • CE completions are submitted electronically the next business day after a passing completion is acquired. A fee of $0.50 fee will be charged for processing of your credit hours for each course taken and will be added to your check out total.

License Renewal Term

  • The term of the license is different that the renewal period. Please check with the department about your license term.
  • The renewal term is every 3 years based upon the license issuance date.

Final Exam

  • Final exams need to be monitored by a disinteresed third party.
  • Final exams are CLOSED book.
  • A passing grade of at least 70% required to pass the course.

Carryover CE Hours

  • A maximum of 45 CE credits may be carried over from one 3 year term to another.

Repeating Courses

  • Courses may NOT be taken for credit more than once in each renewal period.

Completion Certificates

  • Certificates of completion are available as soon as a course is completed with a passing grade. Certificates should be printed and kept on file.

Exemptions

  • Licensees who hold one of the following: viatical brokers/representative license, reinsurance intermediary brokers/managers license, surplus lines brokers license, or a advisors license.
  • All individuals licensed prior to April 4, 1983 are exempted by statute, commonly referred to as "grandfathered", from the requirements of continuing education. In order to maintain this status, however, such individuals must be continuously licensed. If an individual allows his or her license(s) to lapse and later re-applies, the exemption will not be available and continuing education requirements will apply. Furthermore, please be reminded that individuals licensed prior to April 13, 1983 who subsequently amend their licenses by adding an additional line or lines of authority are then subject to the continuing education requirements. See 211 CMR 50.04(b).
  • Nonresident agents who are in good standing with CE requirements in their home state.
