Required CE Hours for Renewal in South Dakota
Most Licenses
- Most licenses need to take 10 CE hours every two year renewal period.
Dual Licenses
- Any agent holding two licenses will need to take 20 CE hours every two year renewal period.
Crop Agents
- Agents holding a crop license must take 4 CE hours every two hour reneal period.

Long Term Care -LTC
- Agents wishing to sell Long Term Care are required to take a one time only 8 hour Department of Insurance certified course.
- Each license term thereafter each agent must complete a 4 hour Long Term Care Partnership CE course that is approved by the department.

Flood Insurance Training
- An insurance producer who sells flood insurance may satisfy the minimum training
and education requirements by completing a 3-hour course related to the National Flood
Insurance Program (NFIP).

How Hours are Reported
- CE completions are submitted electronically the next business day after a passing completion is acquired.

License Term
- Beginning October 1, 2010. License term is every two years on the last day of the license birth date.
- Resident agents: The 4/30/2012 renewal date will be converted to the last day of the agents birth month in 2012.
(exceptions: January, February, and March birth months will be converted to the last day of the birth month in 2013.)
