Welcome to a Continuing Education Course about life insurance underwriting. This course is designed to provide learners with comprehensive information about individual life insurance policy provisions and the life insurance underwriting process.
Because the life insurance policy, once issued, represents a major commitment on the part of the life insurance company, a very careful process must be followed before that contract is issued. This process is known as underwriting and it involves selection, classification, and rating of risks for approval.
This course covers the generic features of the individual life insurance policy. Those features are found in virtually every policy. This course is intended to give the learner some in-depth information about underwriting and policy options for individual life insurance policies.
In addition to the policy itself, this course covers related individual life insurance information. These topics include basic the rights and obligations of life insurance ownership, settlement options, insurance riders, sources of underwriting information, and delivery of the policy and receipts.
Important terms appear in bold italics throughout the course.
HOW THE COURSE IS ORGANIZED: The course material is divided into 9 intervals of approximately equal length. It is estimated that the average student will complete each interval in about 15 minutes. At the end of each interval, there are questions to help you recall and apply the information covered in that interval.
