Required CE Hours for Renewal
Life Only, Accident & Health, Property, Casualty, and Personal Lines
- Complete a minimum of 24 continuing education (CE) credit hours (for your license type) during each license term. Licensees must also complete a minimum of 3 hours of ethics CE training every license term as a part of the requirements. (The three-hour ethics course shall include 1 hour of study on insurance fraud.)
Limited Lines Auto
- Complete a minimum of 20 hours of CE each license term, including 3 hours of ethics training. (The three-hour ethics course shall include 1 hour of study on insurance fraud.)
Adjuster
- Complete a minimum of 24 hours of CE each license term, including 3 hours of ethics training. (The three-hour ethics course shall include 1 hour of study on insurance fraud.)
Non-Resident
- Existing licenses will be renewed and new licenses can be issued if the home state's requirements are met.

Special Training/Education Requirements
For resident broker-agents, these special training requirements shall be part of, and not in addition to, the continuing education requirement.
Ethics Training
- All producers must complete at least a 3-hour credit training course approved by the California Department of Insurance. (The three-hour ethics course shall include 1 hour of study on insurance fraud.)
Annuity Training
- A producer who engages in the sale of annuity products shall complete at least a one-time 8-hour credit training course approved by the California Department of Insurance. In addition, the producer must complete at least a 4-hour credit annuity training course each renewal period thereafter.
Long Term Care Training
- A producer who engages in the sale of LTC products shall complete at least an 8-hour credit LTC training course approved by the California Department of Insurance. In addition, the producer must complete at least a 8-hour credit LTC training course each renewal period thereafter.
- A newly licensed producer who will engage in the sale of LTC products shall complete an 8-hour credit LTC training course, approved by the California Department of Insurance, every year for the first 4 years that they are licensed. In addition, the producer must complete at least an 8-hour credit LTC training course each renewal period thereafter.
- All producers who engages in the sale of LTC products, who are exempt from CE requirements, shall complete at least a one-time 8-hour credit LTC training course approved by the California Department of Insurance.
- A producer who engages in the sale of LTC Partnership products shall complete a one-time 8-hour credit LTC training course approved by the California Department of Insurance. In addition, the producer must complete at least an 8-hour credit LTC Partnership training course in a live classroom setting each renewal period thereafter. Producers who are licensed after January 1, 1992, shall complete a 4-hour credit LTC Partnership training course in a live classroom setting each renewal period thereafter.
Flood Insurance Training
- Insurance producers who sell flood insurance must complete at least a one-time, 3-hour credit training course on the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
Homeowners Valuation
- Every California resident property broker-agent, casualty broker-agent or personal lines broker-agent must satisfactorily complete one 3-hour credit training course on homeowners' insurance valuation prior to estimating the replacement value of structures in connection with, or explaining the various levels of coverage under, a homeowners' insurance policy. California Insurance Code section 1749.3. The Homeowners' Insurance Valuation training course needs to be taken only once in order to satisfy the requirements
24-Hour Care Coverage
- Any Accident and Health or Sickness licensee who wishes to sell 24-hour care coverage shall complete at least a 4-hour credit training course on workers' compensation and general principles of employer liability prior to selling this coverage. For resident licensees, this requirement shall count toward the licensee's continuing education requirement. Nothing in this section shall be deemed to allow an Accident and Health or Sickness licensee to satisfy the obligations set forth in this section by other than a proctored examination administered or approved by the California Department of Insurance.
2025 Life Training
- All California resident and non-resident life agents licensed on or after January 1, 2024, who engage in the sale of specified life insurance policies on or after January 1, 2025 must complete at least a 4-hour credit life insurance policies training course before soliciting consumers to sell these policies.
2025 Variable Life Training
- All California resident life agents licensed on or after January 1, 2025, who engage in the sale of variable life insurance policies must complete at least a 2-hour credit variable life insurance policies training course before soliciting consumers to sell these policies.

Exemptions
- Any person meeting the following requirements will be exempt from completing continuing education (CE) to renew his or her life-only and/or accident and health, property broker-agent and/or casualty broker-agent license, personal lines broker-agent license, or limited lines automobile license:
- 70 years of age or older; and,
- 30 continuous years as a licensee in good standing in the State of California.
- The exemption does not apply to those individuals licensed for the first time on or after January 1, 2010.

Final Exam
- California requires that you confirm you have reviewed the course material before entering the exam. By clicking on the link to download the course material button, you are confirming that you do so.
- The Final Exam is open book and does not require a monitor/proctor. You may refer to the Course Material as often as you need to complete the exam.
- You must receive a score of 70% or better to pass the exam.
- You will be given the opportunity to retake the exam if a passing score is not received.

How are Hours Reported
FastrackCE reports your credits the next business day except holidays to Sircon. The state recognizes the date you passed/completed the exam as the date of completion. It is not based upon the day we report the hours to them.

Course Repetition
Courses can only be repeated for continuing education credit if the completion dates are in a different license term.

Carry-over Hours
In California, excess continuing education (CE) credit hours can be carried over to the next renewal period, up to a maximum of 24 hours. However, ethics, annuity, or LTC courses are only carried over as general credit.
