NY Insurance Continuing Education Requirements

• All Licenses

  • 15 CE hours every 2 year renewal term.
  • at least one hour of Insurance Law instruction
  • at least one hour of ethics and professionalism instruction
  • at least one hour of diversity, inclusion, and elimination of bias instruction
  • at least one hour of flood insurance instruction if the licensee is licensed to sell one or more lines of property/casualty insurance
  • and at least three hours of enhanced flood insurance instruction if the licensee sells flood insurance through the NFIP

• Long Term Care -LTC

  • Agents wishing to sell Long Term Care are required to take a one time only 8 hour Department of Insurance certified course
  • Each license term thereafter each agent must complete a 4 hour Long Term Care Partnership CE course that is approved by the department.

• Flood Insurance Training

  • An insurance producer who sells one or more lines of property/casualty insurance may satisfy the minimum training and education requirements by completing at least 1-hour of flood insurance instruction
  • An insurance producer who sells flood insurance through the NFIP may satisfy the minimum training and education requirements by completing at least a 3-hour course related to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)

• CE completions are submitted electronically the next business day after a passing completion is acquired.

• License term is every two years in even numbered or odd numbered years based upon the agents birth date.

• Classroom
• Seminar
• Independent Self-study
• Online courses

• Non Monitored Exams.
• Final exams are Closed book.
• A passing grade of at least 70% required to pass the course.

• CE credits are not allowed to be carried over to he new renewal period.

• Courses may not be taken more than once ever.

• Certificates of completion are available as soon as a course is completed with a passing grade. Certificates should be printed and kept on file.

• Agents who hold a independent adjuster licence, bail bond license, or a mortgage guarantee license.
• Agents who are on active military duty.
• Nonresident agents who meet the CE credits and are in good standing in their home state.
